Getting there

The nearest airport is Plovdiv, which is 85kms away, or approx. one and a half hours's drive. Sofia, is 240km and a bit over three hours. Have a look at the map section for more details

BY PLANE FROM UK: EasyJet have low-cost flights every day out of London Gatwick and Manchester throughout the year. www.easyjet.com. It's also worth having a look at www.charterflights.co.uk/

Sometimes you can pick up great last minute bargains from tour operators flying in to Sofia and Plodiv http://www.ski-flights.com/ flying out of Gatwick, Manchester and Bermingham. They'll also organise coach transfer from Plodiv for £45 return.

BY PLANE FROM IRELAND: Aer Lingus no longer offer direct flights to Bulgaria unfortunatly. But Thomas Cooke are now offering flights from as little as 145 euro direct to Plodiv from Dublin on Saturdays. Phone: 0818 202020. At these prices, flights get snapped up pretty quicky. At time of writing (Dec 1st) there still were a fair few seats in january 23rd and 30th but February was almost booked out.

CAR HIRE: Car Hire, like everything in Bulgaria is really cheap. You can hire your wheels direct from the airport from as little as 20 euro a day. They'll even offer you the option of a driver if you can't be bothered with the whole left hand drive thing. www.economycarhire.com or www.rhinocarhire.com

If you're travelling from Sofia, you travel on the main motorway until you come to Plodiv where you turn left. Follow the signposts for Asenovgrad. As you drive past this town follow the signposts for Pamporovo and Smolyan. You'll notice the curves in the road as you climb up past the pretty town of Chepelare. It's a nice drive with a rushing river at the side of the road. From here Pamporovo is another 10-12 Kilometres off to the right.

Royal House is in the middle of Pamporovo situated on the back road between The Mugravets Hotel and the 5 Star, Hotel Pamporovo. Turn left when you get to the Mugravets (you can't miss it!) and 200 metres on the Right, surrounded by pine trees, is the Royal House.

TRANSFER: These guys are great. If you don't want the hassle, why not just have a driver meet you at the airport and bring you there. From as little as 20euro each way for 4 sharing, this really is the hassle free option. www.bulgariatransport.com/transfers.html

BUS: Don't bother with the trains. They're not very reliable anyway. The bus service is very punctual. The central bus station is only 10 minutes in a taxi from the airport (It shouldn't cost you more than 10 Lev, 5 euro) and Buses to Pamporovo leave 5 times daily. 8.00am, 12.00am, 1.00pm, 4.00pm and 6.00pm. Price is 16 lev (8 euro) each way. The bus drops you in to the centre of Pamporovo. www.centralnaavtogara.bg
